Statement of the Job:
The University of Maine Cooperative Extension and the University of Maine at Presque Isle College of Arts and Sciences invite applications for a full-time, fiscal-year, continuing contract eligible faculty appointment as Assistant or Associate Extension Professor and Assistant or Associate Professor of Crop Production. This position is a 90% Extension appointment through the University of Maine (UMaine) and a 10% teaching appointment through the University of Maine at Presque Isle (UMPI). The successful candidate will work out of the Aroostook County Extension Office (UMaine) in Presque Isle, Maine with classroom instruction occurring on the nearby UMPI campus. The faculty member in this position will develop and lead educational outreach and applied research with an emphasis on agriculture in Aroostook County, Maine; work with other UMaine faculty, county Extension Association members, advisory boards and volunteers to offer off-campus programs addressing the educational needs of the Maine potato industry and other agricultural industries; and teach undergraduate courses and offer limited student advising within the UMPI Sustainable Agriculture Concentration.

This position requires:
- Ph.D. in agronomy, plant science, soil science or related field.
- Excellent interpersonal, technical writing, and public communication skills.
- Self-motivation, direction, and skill in achieving goals and managing multiple tasks in an autonomous work environment.
- Ability to design, develop, and deliver effective educational programming.
- Documented record of conducting high-quality, applied scientific research, demonstrated by publication in peer-reviewed journals.
- Pesticide applicator certification within six months of hire.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Ability to travel, usually requiring a valid driver’s license, both in- and out-of-state.
- Work schedule flexibility to meet client needs.
This Position Prefers:
- Experience in providing evidence-based recommendations to agricultural producers by applying field specific knowledge and compiling research-based information, especially in one of the following topics: nutrient management, soil fertility, crop water management, precision agriculture, weed management, and alternative crops.
- Established record of effectiveness in Extension educational programming and undergraduate teaching.
- Experience in grant writing and the financial management of grant funds.
- Demonstrated experience serving a diverse audience.
- Successful supervisory experience.
