Job Description

Job Summary:

Under the operationaland administrative direction of the Laboratory
Manager, the Point of CareCoordinator is responsible for coordinating
all point of care testing accordingto manufacturer’s procedure, CLIA
requirements, Joint Commission and CAPAccreditation standards. The
Point of Care Coordinator assures qualitytesting and accurate test
performance through operator training, equipmentmonitoring, equipment
maintenance and troubleshooting, quality control reviewand proficiency
testing.

The incumbent may have access to highly confidentialpatient, employee
and/or Mercy proprietary information, and must handle &protect the
information in accordance with hospital & system policies,
HIPAArequirements and the highest level of ethical standards. The
incumbent isresponsible for reporting all security events, potential
events, or othersecurity risks to the organization. Theincumbent is
responsible for participation in and completion of all patientsafety
initiatives appropriate to the position and conducts all
jobresponsibilities according to the Mission and Values of Mercy
Hospital.

Requirements:

Registry with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (MT ASCP) is
required.

Bachelor of Science degree as a Medical Technologist.

A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a Clinical Laboratory
technical position under a Board-Certified Pathologist are required.

Must be highly accountable for knowledge of procedures, instruments in
use, quality control measures. As a resource for each testing location,
must be able to troubleshoot issues and come to resolutions quickly.
Proven attention to detail, meticulous documentation, and organizational
abilities required. Possess knowledge of JCAHO/CAO and CLIA requirements
and regulations,and ability to apply them concerning Point of Care
Testing. Must exhibit a high degree of professional judgment and
initiative in dealing with multiple customers (providers, nursing staff,
MA’s), and patient care matters. Must have the ability to inform and
pull testing, if necessary, based on required regulations when not met.
Must be able to make informed decisions regarding exceptions to standard
policies and procedures when required by specific patient need. Must
have excellent interpersonal skills to provide education, competency
assessment and on time documentation. Must perform detailed audits,
report monthly to the lab manager and/or director, and inform unit
and/or practice managers when audit performance does not meet standards
and pull testing, if necessary.Communicate findings to staff and manager
when regulations are not met. Must accept directions, information and
feedback from subordinates, management, and associates. Must have
analytical and problem solving skills combined with technical knowledge
to make optimal test implementation and instrument purchasing decisions
in concert with Pathologists, Ancillary Director, Laboratory Manager.
