Job Description

Cushing Systems Inc. is seeking a lead web developer to assume overall production and maintenance of our web-based Public Safety and Law Enforcement software, a summary of which can be viewed at This is a significant application providing desktop and mobile device, emergency service users with all the features they need to complete their demanding tasks as efficiently as possible. Public Safety is a fascinating arena in which to develop software. Subject matter skills are as important as technical skills, as is the ability to clearly communicate with dispatchers, officers, jailers and first responders.
The current architecture is Microsoft Web Entity Framework C# with a myriad of underlying support technologies, all stored and managed in the Atlassian world. This is expected to be the platform for the near future but will evolve as needs demand, or when somebody proves to us a better way of serving our customers. We are not in the bight shiny object business, but we make the mundane or complex task as easy, complete and where appropriate as fast as possible.
Applicants should possess the skills to jump into the deep end and come up swimming. They will need to be a US citizen or DHS-defined legal resident. We are not sponsoring any HxB visa applicants. In addition, any Cushing Systems employee is required to pass a significant FBI background check, and complete a common sense CJIS security course and test. Continued fingerprinting, background checks and CJIS recertification can be expected. No felons please.
We do not develop in a vacuum, so travel to customer locations from New York to Texas to Idaho is to be expected. Hands on experience and direct user interaction help us fully understand the software requirements of their day to day activity.
We are a virtual company and do not have office space as such. But for the first year of this job, close collaboration will be a must and office space will be rented at a mutually acceptable workspace location, with Rockland or Damariscotta as an initial suggestion and preference. After that it will be your call.
Compensation and other topics will be discussed with specific finalists. This is a small company in an exciting business with limited fringe benefits, but opportunities for significant participation will be open to the right, and agile, candidate.
