The Privacy Compliance Specialist, working in conjunction with the Manager Privacy, provides HIPAA privacy and security and health care compliance assistance across the organization. The Privacy Compliance Specialist will be responsible for the investigation, tracking, trending, and resolution of incidents and potential privacy violations. In addition, this position will work with the Compliance and Legal Affairs team to maintain the compliance program across the organization.
Investigations – Investigates allegations of privacy violations received via incident reporting and coordinates outreach to applicable parties (employees, patients, members, others) to obtain additional information and/or provide resolution. Conducts root cause analysis to identify opportunities for improvements and works with cross-functional teams to implement as applicable.
Completes and maintains documentation of privacy incident investigations by source, root cause and resolution. Communicates data on reports and status of investigations to supervisor in a timely manner.
Assists Manager Privacy and the Compliance and Legal Affairs team in writing and implementing policies and compliance documents.
Supports internal and external audits.
Attends education and training sessions to establish and maintain professional competencies.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience in relevant field required.
2 – 4 years of experience in a compliance or similar role required.
Direct work experience reviewing and interpreting HIPAA and other privacy laws required.
Experience investigating privacy incidents desired.
Delivery System and/or Health Plan experience involving HIPAA and privacy work preferred.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills required with the ability to write and present highly complex regulatory information in a professional, clear, concise manner.
Microsoft Office Applications (e.g., Access, Excel, Work, PowerPoint, Visio) experience and proficiency preferred.
Demonstrates an understanding of and alignment with Martin’s Point Values.
Knowledge of HIPAA, other health care related privacy and confidentiality rules as well as federal and state privacy laws required.
High aptitude for learning.
Ability to independently and effectively research inquiries from employees, patients, members, and others, including regulatory entities.
