The University of Southern Maine’s School of Nursing (SON) invites applications for a tenure track, full-time, nine-month (September-May) faculty appointment at the rank of assistant professor to start September 2020. The SON is the largest nursing program in the University of Maine System with an enrollment of 400 undergraduate and 125 graduate students. The school grants baccalaureate, master’s, and doctoral (DNP) degrees and is housed within the College of Science, Technology and Health. Our teaching facilities include a state-of-the-art simulation center and a new $1.5 M high-fidelity simulation center will open in September 2020. The faculty at the University of Southern Maine are committed to serving the needs of our communities. The School of Nursing has a long tradition of incorporating community-based learning and civic engagement into its program. Responsibilities include teaching, scholarship, and service. The successful candidate must be able to teach across the undergraduate and graduate curricula within their area of expertise. Teaching schedules are flexible with classes taught during a variety of times and days, and utilizing various delivery methods including face-to-face and online formats. Nursing classes are taught predominantly on the Portland and Lewiston campuses. We will also be offering accelerated online graduate programs beginning spring 2020.
Faculty with the rank of assistant professor are expected to advance a scholarship agenda. Service expectations can be met with activities related to the department, college, university, professional organizations, and community.

Required: A completed doctoral degree in nursing or a related field with demonstrated expertise in a specialty area by time of appointment; Registered nurse in Maine or eligible for RN licensure in Maine. ABD’s with strong likelihood of Ph.D completion may also be considered at a Lecturer rank until completion, within one year of appointment, at which time the appointment will convert to a tenure-track position.
Preferred: Specialty focus in adult health, mental health, or family health; experience in simulation and/or interest in developing service learning community partnerships; specialty focus in nursing administration; University-level teaching experience.
