Summary

The Protein Production and Purification (P3) Service seeks a Research Technician/Technologist to join a new service assisting JAX scientists by the cloning, expression and purification of proteins to be used as antigens and reagents at the Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor, Maine. Projects include a combination of mammalian cell culture, chromatography, protein analysis methods, molecular biology, Routine maintenance responsibilities. Although previous experience in these methods is preferred, a candidate with a proven track record of focus, organization, and the ability to follow SOPs while maintaining meticulous records will be considered. This position is a great opportunity for both experienced associates to expand their skills and for energetic new graduates with a passion for research. The salary will be commensurate with experience.
Responsibilities

  • Protein Production & Purification Technologist IMammalian cell culture – Maintaining mammalian cell lines using SOP aseptic techniques. Generating stable cell lines. Reproducibility and detailed documentation of sample records is critical.
    Chromatography-Maintain, run, and maintain an AKTA Pure chromatography system.
    Purify standard reagents using established SOP. Monitor and report reagents activity.
    Molecular biology lab activities – Executing, and documenting, molecular biology protocols with highly reproducible results in an efficient and timely manner. Techniques include, but are not limited to, PCR, sequencing, plasmid cloning and scaled plasmid preparation, DNA analysis (gel restriction digests, Sanger sequence analysis). Accurate and detailed documentation of sample records is critical.
    General laboratory operations – Maintaining reagent inventories, monitoring/calibrating/cleaning equipment.
  • Protein Production & Purification Technologist IIResponsible for mammalian cell cultures. Cell biology duties include the propagation of mammalian cells, preparation of cell culture media and other reagents for the growth and maintenance of contamination-free mammalian cells.
    Perform routine and non-routine laboratory tasks and maintenance including, but not limited to, analysis and compilation of data, accurate record keeping, use of project tracking software, ensuring workstation and laboratory cleanliness, preparation of reports, inventory upkeep, the creation and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and associated documents and adherence to laboratory safety protocols.
    Capable of understanding, designing, and executing molecular biology lab protocols such as PCR reactions and plasmid cloning including data interpretation and troubleshooting.
    Identify and pursue process improvements to increase capabilities and capacity.

Qualifications

  • Protein Production & Purification Technologist IB.S. in a Life Sciences, Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related discipline.
    Minimum of one years’ wet bench experience preferably in a molecular biology, cell culture, or protein chemistry based laboratory is preferred.
    Excellent research task oversight skills including adherence to procedures, best practices and detailed documentation/record keeping.
    Superior organizational skills, ability to prioritize multiple demands and work efficiently under pressure; excellent communication skills.
    The ability to work in a demanding, fast paced, team-oriented environment, while maintaining a high-level of professionalism. Ability to interact in a productive, professional and positive manner to enhance the outcome of the goals of the research program.
  • Protein Production & Purification Technologist IIB.S. in a Life Sciences, Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related discipline.
    Minimum of two years’ experience performing protein chemistry, molecular biology and cell culture based research. Demonstrated ability to apply to solve research problems with high independence. Demonstrated expertise in general lab techniques with an expertise in chromatography, molecular biology, and cell culture techniques including, but not limited to, mammalian cell culture, DNA purification methods, plasmid construction, cell rupture, and chromatography techniques.
    Excellent research task oversight skills including adherence to procedures, best practices and detailed documentation/record keeping.
    Superior organizational skills, ability to prioritize multiple demands and work efficiently under pressure; excellent communication skills.
    Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to effectively exchange information and handle problems with people from a wide variety of background levels.
    The ability to work in a demanding, fast paced, team-oriented environment, while maintaining a high-level of professionalism. Ability to interact in a productive, professional and positive manner to enhance the outcome of the goals of the research program.
