To provide goal oriented patient directed speech and language assessments and therapeutic care, commensurate with hospital policy and all licensing and regulating authorities.
To provide comprehensive evaluation, treatment and education to speech-language patients in order to assist the patient in achieving their highest level of function. Participates in rehab department PI, department meetings and hospital wide activities to promote staff development and patient safety. Assist with the development of department strategic goals that assist with the achievement of SVH’s mission and vision.
Graduate degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Disorders from an Accredited Program.
Current speech-language pathology license for the State of Maine, Completion of the Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
Minimum of one year experience or CFY considered.
BLS Certification and basic computer knowledge.
Clinical: Prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, twisting and the ability to transfer and assist patients. The ability to work with, lift and set up equipment for patient use.****
Normal visual activity and manual dexterity. Lifting and carrying of supplies up to 50 pounds unassisted, greater than 50 pounds with assistance and/or mechanical devises or other personnel. High demand for rapid/effective decision making, high level of patient contact, fast paced environment. Must function well under stressful situations and fluctuating workloads.
Exposure to hazards associated with a hospital environment, including infectious diseases, lifting, erratic patient behavior and strong human emotion. Potential exposure to blood/body fluids, exposure to high temperature water during patient care and some chemical contact during cleaning duties.
